Why Ross Ambrose?

"I understand a great deal about the history we love and the realities of change, growth and the need to act with a long-term vision. I understand how important the City's services are to residents as well as the importance of tourism and the need to nurture our small town feel. High Springs is a unique community that has strong roots. Our community roots can continue to nourish an amazing future. If elected, I’m ready to help make choices that protect our identity as a small town while managing growth." - Ross Ambrose

Ross Ambrose has loved High Springs since his first visit in 1999 to work with acclaimed filmmaker and explorer Wes Skiles and later moved to High Springs permanently in 2001. After many years in film production, Ross moved forward locally with event management services and eventually bought a local business, AAA Porta Serve, a portable sanitation company that employees 12 full-time and serves 6500 square miles of north central Florida. Ross serves as Secretary for the Portable Sanitation Association International.

Prior to taking over AAA Porta Serve, Ross says his greatest professional accomplishment came through his work in High Springs managing an underwater motion picture unit for renowned filmmaker James Cameron. This effort involved the first ever use of 3D HD equipment underwater in a cave at Ginnie Springs and resulted in the movie SANCTUM being released by Universal pictures.

Ross has a lifelong history of volunteerism starting as a teen and continuing in his previous home in Chicago where he was a board member of the Chicago Bar Foundation’s Lend A Hand Program. Once he moved to High Springs he became active in the City’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Board 18 years ago and currently serves as its Chair. The Parks Board also acts as the City’s Tree Board.

Once he moved to High Springs he also became very active in the High Springs Community Theater (he has a degree in Theatre Arts and Communications from Kalamazoo College in Lighting and Set Design). He also served as Treasurer for the High Springs Community Development Corporation, which operated the High Springs Main Street program for several years.

Ross also is a volunteer with Boxer Rescue and has his second “foster fail”, Watch, who is currently fighting cancer. Ross also been active in youth services and was recently nominated as a candidate for Governor appointment to the Children’s Trust of Alachua County.

“High Springs is a unique community that has strong roots. Our community roots have the potential to nourish an amazing future. If elected, I’m ready to help make choices that protect our identity as a small town while managing growth.”

When talking about the City’s current status, Ross says, “We have great city staff and wonderful residents with a diverse set of expectations. Our town has space, character, our own fire and police departments. Our parks have playgrounds, fields and pavilions that would make cities twice our size envious. New additions to our robust recreational offerings include a frisbee golf course and plans for one to two youth robotics teams this fall.

Our city is challenged with a water system unable to support commercial and residential growth and has failed to engage the community with regular communications, a robust web interface or maintaining a plan for simple maintenance for trees, streets and economic development.”
